JAPANESE HARDWARE FIRM Sony has revealed that it will announce thePlaystation 4 (PS4) release date on Tuesday at its pre-Gamescom 2013 press conference.
While Toys R Us has put the PS4 up for preorder with a 13 December release date, the gaming world has yet to hear from Sony regarding when its nextgames console will arrive on store shelves. The wait is almost over, however, as the firm has said that it will reveal the PS4 release date on 20 August.
"We'll kick off the show at 18:00 BST on 20 August 2013 with a briefing to media on our release plans for Playstation 4, as well as updates on Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita."
If speculation is to be believed, Sony will announce that its PS4 will start shipping in October, a month ahead of Microsoft's Xbox One and two months sooner than Toys R Us is promising.
Those in the UK who have been holding off for an official release date before preordering the PS4 console might have quite a wait to get the console, as it was revealed earlier this month that preorders have already sold out. Sony confirmed the news, with its own preorder webpage showing the console as out of stock, which means those who order the PS4 now won't receive it until after launch day.
